What does “drop” mean?Updated 14 days ago

Drop refers to the difference in height between the heel and forefoot of a shoe. It affects how your foot sits in the shoe and can change the overall feel of the platform.

A traditional training or running shoe typically positions the heel slightly higher than the toes. A zero-drop shoe keeps the heel and forefoot at the same height, creating a flatter platform and keeping your foot closer to its natural position.

The Primitive 1 features zero drop, which is designed to provide a strong ground connection and allow the foot to work more naturally during training.

For comparison:

  • Primitive 1: Zero drop — creates a flat platform with minimal cushioning and a strong ground feel for natural movement during training.
  • Patriot 1: Zero drop — offers a natural foot position and ground feel for those who prefer a flatter platform.
  • Savage 1 Trainer: 4mm heel-to-toe drop — provides a stable, low-profile platform with more cushioning and structure, making it versatile for lifting and dynamic training.
  • Pursuit 1: 10mm heel-to-toe drop — provides a more traditional running-shoe feel with additional cushioning and support, making it a strong option for longer runs and higher-impact training.

If you're new to zero-drop footwear, keep in mind that the change in platform can feel noticeably different from traditional shoes. We recommend gradually incorporating zero-drop shoes into your training to give your feet and lower legs time to adapt.
